El lugar: Encuentro y Contraste.
Patagonia es uno de los destinos turísticos más importantes de Chile y el mundo, una geografía que sorprende por su escala, naturaleza salvaje y por la relación que se genera entre el visitante y el paisaje.
El encuentro entre los elementos naturales impacta a primera vista, esa conexión que existe entre agua y glaciar, roca y montaña, árbol y tierra, un contraste de materias, formas y colores, entre lo sólido y lo líquido, entre el quiebre de la forma y la explanada del valle.
El proyecto nace a partir de este concepto; encuentro y contraste, una arquitectura que emerge de la tierra y se convierte en parte de la naturaleza, quiebres que se levantan como montañas, volcanes y glaciares en el horizonte de Puerto Natales.
Aka Patagonia es un homenaje al paisaje.
[EN] The Place: Encounter and contrast
Patagonia is one of the most important tourist destinations in Chile and the world, a geography that strikes you with its scale, untamed wilderness and the bond that’s generated between the visitor and the landscape.
The meeting of the elements hits you at first sight, the connection between water and glacier, rock and mountain, tree and earth; a contrast of materials, forms and colors, between the solid and the liquid, between the mountain gorge and the valley plain.
The roots of this project lie in this concept: encounter and contrast, an architecture that emerges from the earth and becomes part of nature, rupturing forms that rise up like mountains, volcanoes and glaciers on the horizon of Puerto Natales.
Aka Patagonia is a tribute to the landscape.
Sensaciones y Materialidades.
La lenga es una especie nativa típica de la zona y envuelve el proyecto incluso en las cubiertas, protegiendo la estructura de las extremas condiciones climáticas. La lenga está adaptada para crecer en lugares de suelos pobres, climas fríos y fuertes vientos, donde ninguna otra especie suele adaptarse.
El envejecimiento del material es un aspecto clave del proyecto para lograr una fusión entre lo construido y el paisaje. La arquitectura busca con el tiempo adaptarse a su entorno, sin competencias ni pretensiones, haciéndose parte de ella.
[EN] Sensations and Materials.
The lenga tree is a species native to the region. It envelops the project, even the roof, protecting the structure from extreme weather conditions. The lenga has evolved to grow in places with poor soil, cold climates and strong winds, where no other species can usually adapt.
The aging of the material is a key aspect of the project: achieving a fusion between the built environment and the landscape. Over time, architecture seeks to adapt to its environment, without competition or pretension, by becoming a part of it.
El Proyecto.
El proyecto se emplaza en Puerto Natales en lo alto del valle al final de una suave pendiente, con vistas panorámicas, donde el horizonte se ve interrumpido por quiebres naturales que emergen, volcanes, montañas, glaciares, lagos.
El encargo consiste en 6 módulos de habitaciones privadas y un módulo común de relajación, reunión y cocina.
Los 6 módulos prefabricados en madera se construyeron en un astillero y luego fueron instalados en el sitio, posicionados estratégicamente para enmarcar las vistas a las distintas atracciones naturales y obtener la mayor cantidad de luz natural durante el dia.
Los espacios están diseñados para que uno pueda experimentar el flujo continuo de la naturaleza con el ciclo del tiempo, tanto dentro como fuera.
[EN] The Project.
The project is located in Puerto Natales at the top of the valley at the end of a gentle slope with panoramic views, where the horizon is broken by soaring ridges, volcanoes, mountains and glaciers.
The project consists of six modules (private double rooms with a bathroom) and one communal module for relaxing, meeting and cooking.
The 6 prefabricated wooden modules were built in a shipyard and then assembled on site, strategically positioned to frame the views of the various natural attractions and to obtain the maximum level of natural light during the day. The entire construction was built on piles to have the lowest impact on the site.
The space was designed so that guests can experience the continuous flow of nature, both inside and out.
